Re: Tutorial - Modifying and Branding the Server Application

techdoc - I know exactly what you're referring to.

However, I've come to a halt on PCHW as the powers that be have decided that we can't use it, unless we get some sort of prior approval from the users. Basically, they want us to send out some sort of disclaimer that we can't be blamed for anything ...

Re: Customization: multi-icon and bitmap compression

So far as the compressed BMP file is concerned, this might be due to the physical dimensions of the image, and the settings in PcHelpware.exe.

The setting in the version I have is as follows:

136 DIALOG 0, 0, 262, 132

so the image will be 262x132 pixels when displayed.

If your original image is ...

Re: Random ID

From my understanding, you define the ID number prior to creating the server app. It is this ID number that creates the link between your viewer app and your server app so that you can see the users PC. Therefore, you couldn't generate a random number, as both the viewer and the server need to have ...

Re: Not a valid Win32 App for some users of the server

Not sure how your users access the server app, but it may be corruption. If you haven't already been down this route, get them to download it and try again.

Does it always affect the same user, or is it random?

Re: PCHW is buggy and has many files?

I have only been testing PCHW on and off for a couple of weeks, and the only issue I spotted with it was the tab order of the fields in the viewer app. Having said that, I haven't gone to the bother of determining if that was the intended order, or whether I'm just being fussy.

So far as the server ...

Re: Using PCHW on Three Laptops Attached to a Router

redge - Thanks. I hope to get PCHW passed by our IT security people, so we can use it, and if I can get that done, I then hope to persuade them to set up a repeater as well.

It will then just be a matter of getting our web team to put up a page hosting the server app (or three apps) for downloading.

Using PCHW on Three Laptops Attached to a Router

I've been able to test PCHW from a laptop connected to a router to access another PC, and it works fine. I have set it up to use the repeater. However, if and when I get approval to actually use this software to help our customers, there is another obstacle to overcome.

There are three of us here ...

The PcHelpWare.exe that you need to edit is the one in the create_server folder.

Re: Tutorial - Modifying and Branding the Server Application

Max - If you want to do this for PCHW, you need to do the following:

1. Download PcHelpWare_rel10_SCgui.zip from http://www.uvnc.com/pchelpware/download/PcHelpWare_rel10_SCgui.zip
2. Extract the enter.bmp from the zip file. I cropped the outer size a bit more and then filled outside the black ...

Re: Pchelpware vs vnc sc filesizes

joe - Just opened up the server app with WinRar to see what's inside.

The following files had zero compression - 1SCDLL.dll, helpdesk.txt, icon1.ico, PcHelpWare.exe and SCHook.dll

The file background.bmp went from 85,426 to 8,946 bytes.

However, the really interesting one is 1CHATDLL.dll which ...

joe - I knew my background image was bigger than the original, but on reading about your file size, I decided to check mine. I haven't used SC, so a 300kb download to me seems small compared to the retail products out there.

I haven't used phcw_sc, so don't know what it looks like in use, but you should be able to resize the enter.bmp image (located in the custom folder) using something like PhotoFiltre Studio (http://www.photofiltre-studio.com/).

Re: Feature Request for Next Version

How about allowing the support of different image formats, like GIF. It would help to keep the file size down. Having added our company logo, the background.bmp is now double the size. If we could use GIF format, the size would be a quarter of what it currently is.

Re: Moving the Position of the Connect & Quit Buttons

dado023 - I strongly suspect that this is to do with the fact that the server application is a compressed executable, so making any changes to it with Resource Hacker or any other program will corrupt it.

Secondly, it also protects the developers rights by not having someone change the information ...
