I am running ver. 1.0.1 UltraVNC -SC on a Windows XP platform, I have had no problems up until a few days ago.

Issue:

When Clients try and connect using the "EXE" file, they receive the following error;

"ERROR!

the plugin was unable to locate the key file.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE REGISTRY ENTRY IS PROPERLY SET AND THAT THE KEY FILE EXISTS.

C:\PROGRAM FILES/ULTRAVNC/RC4.KEY"

The Key is present within c:\UltraVNC\rc.key

It was also placed into the ZIP file to create the "EXE" file.

I am at a total loss here, hopefully someone knows what is causing this and hopefully knows a resolution.

By the way, the host system is getting the following error, when the client receives the above error message;

What version is the plugin? The current version will work keyless. You shouldn't get such an error.

I have been able to get UltraVnc-SC to work without the DSM plugin, but I can't get it to function with encryption. I have checked all my settings and have followed the instructions to the letter. Still getting same error.

I don't use SC myself. Its just VNC doing a "reverse" connection.

Make sure you have the SAME VERSION of the plugin on both sides. 1.1.8 and 1.2.2 do not work together! (I'd recommend you use 1.2.2)

First, Is the server working properly? On the server, go into the Properties dialog, make sure the plugin is selected, and then click on Configure. You should see some text listing where the plugin is looking for the key, and if it found it. Does it find it? Where is your key?

Second, try a typical "forward" connection from a standard UltraVNC viewer. Again, start the viewer, make sure the plugin is selected, then click on configure. Did the viewer find the key? If it does, go ahead and connect. Did it work?

Once all that is verified to work, THEN you can start trying SC connections.

Thanks for getting back to me, I hae double checked the version of the DSM plugin on the host side and the client side, both are the exact same version. 1.2.0

As for the server finding the key, yes it finds the key in the same directory as the VNCviewer C:\Progrmam Files\UltraVNC\


I am not receiving the key not found error anymore, but now I am receiving the following error;

Invalid Protocol version.

You need to be using 1.1.8 OR 1.2.2, and it needs to be the same version on both sides. You should NOT be running 1.2.0/1.2.1. They were NG. They especially didn't work if one side was XP and the other was 2000.

I recommend you go with 1.2.2. Switch to that plugin and I'll bet it starts working.

Yes I have and it seems that the Server connects, just fine using my IP address. However when I try to use the DSM Plugin, i get the Protocol error.

The only that changed, which has changed regularly since I have been using UltraVNC was my Dynamic IP changed. That was all.

So, you tested with NO plugin, and it worked.

Then you went into the server, and selected the plugin, clicked on configure to make sure it was finding the key, then hit apply to use the plugin. Did you do this AT the server, or remotely over VNC? Either way, just for fun, restart the server service.

Then you went to the viewer, selected the plugin, clicked on configure to make sure it was finding the key, then initiated the connection? Correct? And it didn't connect?

Have you made sure you have the SAME KEY on both machines?

I'm going to need to see the log file from the plugin for both the server and the veiwer.
