Grayscale color

Post by Guest »

Is it possible to include an option to make the server send compressed grayscale images instead of color? 8-bit grayscale looks (except for the lack of color information) as good as 32-bit color, and might compress better than 8-bit palletized color. For more mundane uses, color information isn't highly important and wastes sometimes limited bandwidth. You could even have the option of 4-bit grayscale for even less bandwidth and "low quality" images (which aren't any worse than the current 8-bit scheme except for the lack of color)

Just an idea :)

That's something we've already investigated (especially Rudi), but it's on hold for now (lack of time). The priority is V1 release.
