ChunkVNC as replacement of SC

Post by bagu »

Hello,

I use ultravnc SC because i help blind people and SC is really easy to use for them. (just need to launch the SC)
But SC have missing feature :
-Don't capture alpha (really hard to help when an alpha box is shown on client screen, because niether me nor the client can see the box :-? )
-Very slow screen refresh since poll screen is disable
-Some UAC problems (when UAC is require, i can't use the elevated program)

But SC is easy to use for us because there's no need of a repeater, no installation (except for viewer side, easier for me), no nat configuration (except for me, but, there's no problem with that)

So i wonder if, and how i can replace SC with ChunkVNC.
Thanks

Why not give ChunkVNC a try and let me know if you have any issues?

I created ChunkVNC years ago as a replacement for SC because of similar problems.

The ChunkVNC project relies on the repeater for many of its features and will only work with it.
Port forwarding to the repeater is just as simple as SC.
Give the project a try, maybe you'll find that the benefits are worth changing your mind about having a repeater.
Keep in mind you can run the repeater on the same computer as the viewer.

Good luck! ;)

Yes, but using a repeater have a big problem for my customers...
Many of them are blind ! (72%)

So it's really hard to enter number for connection.
I really need a direct connection witout any action from customers except launching the program.

If you watch the repeaters log window you can see when an ID number connects so you won't have to have them read it to you.
You've sparked my curiosity as to how this worked with SC before.... How did you get them to run SC in the first place if they are blind?

Sc is placed on start menu.
[direct] is set on helpdesk.txt
i also set an ip/port

So they just have to push start button, go over sc shortcut with arrow keys and pust enter button.

Some of them have a software witch launch SC when they press F1 key (can't remember the software witch make the association)

Sc will launch directly witout any other action.

So i search for the same easy way to launch helpdesk ;)
Watching trough windows log is not really easy (when i compare with single click)

You'll be able to launch InstantSupport the same way you currently launch the SC executable.

If it's really that inconvenient for you to look at the repeater log window to determine an ID number feel free to modify ChunkVNC to fit your needs as all the source code is in the package you download.

I hope it works out for you, good luck!

No problem, I was just letting you know that modifying is an option. ;)

At this point then your only option is to watch the ID number show up in the Repeater's log window.

I'm looking to do the same.
I see Ratty did a version where I could set all the technicians in the InstantSupport application. But I think the technicians should type the code when they start the viewer.

My idea it's to install a repeater in each technician computer and the instantsupport will connect directly to the desired technician repeater. The repeater should ask within a window as UltraVNC SC did if you want to accept the connection or not.

Do you know if someone created a repeater with this question ?
