Service not listening

Post by ipro-bgardner »

Running as a service, UltraVNC does not listen on any port.

Running on Windows Server 2003 x64, fully patched.

Running UltraVNC Server, version 1.1.9.6, downloaded 2014-07-10.

Using SysInternals TCPView to monitor local network info. No program is listening on ports 5800 or 5900. Windows Firewall is disabled.

Tried enabling or disabling incoming port, enabling or disabling Java port, enabling or disabling loopback connections, allowing ports to be auto assigned, or manually assigning RFB port to 5900, Http port to 5800.

Works fine if I run winvnc.exe from a command line, but running as a service does not work.

Have tried both 32- and 64-bit versions.

Mirror driver not installed.

That sounds very odd. I use "netstat -a" to verify TCP 5900 (or w/e it's configured to) is in a LISTENING state.

I would troubleshoot this with the most basic and straight-forward config possible:
[X] Accept Socket Connections
[*] Ports Main: 5900
[ ] Enable JavaViewer
[ ] Allow Loopback Connections
[ ] LoopbackOnly

Disable MS Logon Authentication and DSM Plugin if enabled.

If nothing works, I would uninstall, ensure everything is deleted, re-download the software and try again.

Thanks for your response, Bonji.

I uninstalled, removed folders under Program Files, removed registry settings, rebooted, then reinstalled and it works.

I think my problem was that I initially installed in an RDP session. When I rebooted I went to the physical console of the server to install and it worked as expected.
