A request for a few guides, and a few basic questions

Post by suggersen »

In regards to making UltraVNC as small, easy to install, and “easy-to-get-rid-of-completely” as possible for the remote client (the user whose computer are to be controlled), I would be pleased to know the following:

1. My client only needs the server function in UltraVNC (I am to connect to him via the listen-mode), what files can I remove from the package that are unnecessary in that regard?

2. Could someone please write a quick mini step-by-step guide to make UltraVNC fully configured for the client with just a click or two  ?
Here I think of making it fully configured with the DSM-plug-in and the key-setup. And also, so that when my client has installed/unzipped the package and started it – he just needs to go to listen mode and press ok (since my ip and port info should be there already).

3. With regards to uninstalling, I guess I can’t avoid UltraVNC to write to the registry when it uses the DSM-plug-in. Is it possible to write a little registry-thing that would safely remove the UltraVNC-stuff in the registry? And how would such thing look? 

Sorry for all my “demands” and questions, maybe I’m even making it all more complicated than it have to be 

Thanks in advance.

Morten

p.s. I'm using rc15, though if it makes matters easier, I don't mind using any other version (of course :-))

p.p.s: is it just as safe using the filetransfer options within ultravnc (with the dsm-plug-in). I mean, are the data being send encrypted?

Install all the files from the zip into the c:\program files\ultravnc and then have them run winvnc.exe
Don't install it, run it as an application. Then to remove it just nuke the folder.

You can use an installer to package it, create the directory for you, and it will also create an uninstaller.
Registry entries stay, but that should be ok.

I use Setup Factory 6.0 and Inno Setup.

and yes, I'm pretty sure the files are encrypted during transfer of data if using the plugin. 8)

okayy, thanks for the answers.
May I ask why exactly you use those two installers (noticed one of them is QUITE expensive! :o )
I fell over Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (http://nsis.sourceforge.net/) here the other day, sounded like the perfect one, but now you've put me in a dilemma :-D
But then again, for my small task, i guess just about any installer will do :-)

Thanks again.

I have a friend who had Setup Factory so I borrowed it.
I am using InnoSetup more and more though.

Keep looking, there's alot of good free stuff that may help you create smooth installs. I like that it creates an uninstaller for you. Good Luck.

SingleClick 1.0.0 with encryption plugin would be the good solution for your customer
