Trying to VNC Ipod touch screen to computer

Trying to VNC Ipod touch screen to computer

Post by czimpfer »

Hey all i hope people read this because i have spent 10+ hours trying to figure this out. So my ipod is jailbroken and i have veency downloaded on the device. I have tried using many different VNC's but now im trying UltraVNC because it has a forum and i thought i could figure it out through your help! I have opened many different ports ive seen on websites trying to troubleshoot. I have done this on both my router and firewall. i have done various different troubleshooting commands on the command prompt and through the troubleshooting guide on UltraVNC's website it appears i need to check my DNS. What does that mean? Please someone help!

Your help is MUCH appreciated!

Well, there's almost no useful information in this post to provide any assistance so I'll start with the basics.

You need a VNC server running on the iPod which sounds like you've accomplished via Veency (I have no familiarity with this product).

You need a VNC viewer running on your computer that will connect to the VNC server. Any VNC viewer flavor should work, and you just enter the IP address of the VNC server (aka iPod) and connect.

Assuming the viewer computer and the iPod are both setup on the network correctly, you should then be able to remote the iPod without issue. I would suggest having the VNC viewer computer and iPod on the same local network when getting it to work initially to avoid the complications of a routed network.

If you are only running the VNC viewer on the computer, then the firewall should not be an issue assuming all outgoing connections are allowed (which is usually the default in almost all OS's).

Ben,

Veency is the server on my ipod, and the viewer is UltraVNC on my computer. Both are on the same wifi and when i put the ipods IP address into the viewer it says connection failed. The port being used for the VNC setup is 5900 and i have opened that port on both my router and firewall. I know in theory how to accomplish this, but its just not working.

A way to troubleshoot if the problem is the viewer or something else is to telnet to the VNC server (iPod) on port 5900 and see if you get back a RFP protocol version. If you do, then network connectivity is verified and it's likely a configuration problem on the viewer or server (and the hard part is over). If you don't, then it could be a firewall, network, or server problem and more troubleshooting will definitely be required.
