Win8 New Install

Post by CharlieA123 »

With the demise of logmein free I am now trying to go back to UVNC. I had it on a few XP boxes in the past with no issues.

I downloaded the latest versions 1.1.9.6 64 bit on my Windows 8 computer and 32 bit ver on my XP Pro computer.

Currently I am trying to access my XP computer at work from my Windows 8 laptop at home. I can log in with no issues (yes admin password is different from viewer password) but cannot click with mouse. I see the cursor (and dot) and can move it around. I've tried a few things picked up from here and there but to no avail. Even tried uninstalling and installing older 1.0.9.5 version and same issue.

What is the fix for this? Is it a Windows 8 issue? Software issue? Any help would be appreciated.

It's a UAC issue.

Solution
1) If you start winvnc.exe manual, use "runas admin" to elevate winvnc to get UAC access.
2) Start winvnc as service, a service always have UAC access.

When you run winvnc.exe as administrator, but without runas the input/clicks block as soon
as you have one "system" window open. UAC block mous/keyboard injection from windows with a lower elevation.
If you start an appliaction with runas admin ->winvnc also need to have uac access
