Splash Image & other questions

Post by peon2t »

Hello

I've been using UVNC SC for years (thx for this tool, btw!) and now I'm triing to switch to PCHelpWare2 in the hopfe that the performance is better.

My main problem is that I can't add custom splashscreen backgrounds with the SC-Creator.

As soon as I chose a custom BMP, the preview turns grey & if I try to compile (Create SC), the Viewer Application crashes.

First I tought that something with my custom BMPs is wrong but the I tried to browse for the default ones (splash.bmp & splash2.bmp in AppData/Roaming/uvnc/pchw/ref) and even if I chose them, the same problem occurs...

Besides this issue, I have some general questions:

- When I first started the viewer, there were two IPs, I guess those are the IPs for the "mediation servers". I assume that these two servers are provided by UVNC. Are chances good, that they'll be up and running for some years to come?
- Could I also provide a 'private' mediation server? (and if yes: is it possible to do it trough a DynDNS-Domain, since I don't have a fix IP)
- There are two IPs. How does the program decide which one is contacted? (I assume that it tries the first and then the second, if the first doesn't answer? If yes: how long ist the timeout?)
- In the config I read about "MYGROUPOFATLEAST16CHARS", now unfrotunately I didn't read this before setting up the viewer for the first time. So I chose a group with less than 16 chars. Still seems to work. Is it a problem?

-We try to keep 2 servers online, only one is required to connect. The servers doesn't use a lot bandwidth as they are only
used to create the initial connection.
-You can install and use your own server, but it need to be a direct internet connected server.
I never tested it with a dynDNS, but if the lookup works ok it should work.

*server+viewer send info( ip/port) to both mediated servers ( simultanious)
*connection request: the viewer send a " i want to connect" to both servers
*The fastest server that answer is used ( udp: you listen to all and send to all without timeouts)
The only thing the mediator servers do is to record name/ip/port and to exchange ip/port when a server/viewer has the same name.

*16 chars is just requested to make sure you have something unique.
If 2 people use the same group, they see the other person servers.

I need to check the bmp splash screens...

Thank you for your fast reaction & the good answers!

To the Splashscreen-Issue I probably should add the information, that I tried it on Windows 8.1 (64bit).
