Properly setting up password

Post by denco »

Hi,
I would like to ask, what is the proper way to setup/change password with UltraVNC Server. When installing the newest version, there is no prompt for password. I have two machines with UltraVNC Server and password already setup. I just can't find proper way of changing the password.

On a new installation a random password is set.
1° in the ultravnc folder you have uvnc_settings.exe, you can run this in the same folder as winvnc.exe
( just make sure you run it as admin)
2° you can also use winvnc.exe ( run as admin) and use the systray
3° If installed as service, the desktop use need to be a LOCAL admin. The service try to impersonate the desktop user
and use his permissions to change the ini file. A local service can only impersonate local users...this fail with a domain admin.
4° You Always can copy winvnc.exe to a temp folder, run winvnc from that folder, a popup ask for a passwd.
Copy the created ultravnc.ini from that temp folder and overwrite the ini in the original vnc folder
