response failed client authentication

Post by bigjohn »

Hi all -
I copied the keys and etc all to a new laptop for 5 different 'remotes'.
All of them work except 1.
On that one - I get "Response failed client authentication"

I've connected to another device on the network, then used RemoteDesktop to connect to the effected machine.
On the effected machine, UVNC service is running, but the tray icon is missing.

So I load the server settings app.
In that app, I type the authentication password, click ok - if I recall correcctly, this will reset the password.

Now I try again to connect to that machine via UVNC.
Key is negotiated propperly, and I'm prompted for a password.
I type in the password that I just set (FYI the tray icon is still missing on the target machine) via the server settings app. This fails again with the same response.

FYI in the server settings app, 'disable tray icon' is not enabled.

Any help would be appreciated - working through another client then using RDP is hard - because the resolution of the screens is different, and I have to operate on mice-type mode (65%!) on a screen already sized to 65%

Thanks again.

Disable service
net stop uvnc_service
or
use the service manager

Start winvnc.exe manual
Possible you get a message on startup ( running as service the messages are not visible)

You also can copy the ultravnc.ini from "good" pc, it's portable' and overwrite the ini on the bad pc.

Thanks -
The one machine I can reach easily and use the remote desktop from is on 1.1.9.6 UVNC... I think it's using the registry since I cannot find that INI file anywhere on the C drive.
I'll be back in front of the machines again friday so I'll report back on if I can get it worked out... Thanks.
