Reverse HTTP Starter

Post by victor_knight »

Here is a program that works well with any version of VNC. It solves the problem of initiating a reverse connection from a work computer that is behind a firewall and proxy server. The information below is taken from the website.

Detailed description of its functionality and usage instructions available here.

If you need to tunnel the VNC connection through the proxy as well,
look at http or https tunneling with f.ex. www.htthost.com

This can also be done through port 22 (SSH) and using an SSH client/server on the work and home PC so the VNC transmission is encrypted. Your organization's LAN is more secure that way.

Right of course, that is, if your proxy is open for outgoing SSH on port 22. Ours, for example, supports http/https on port 80/443 only.

Recently updated to v1.6. It now features an autostart function and a countdown. :)

A little note on those with proxy server issues. Because of the many different implementations of this, I did not include it as part of RHS. However, you can solve this problem as follows.

If you find that Reverse HTTP Starter is unable to connect to the Internet (port 80) because you are behind a corporate proxy server, you might consider using a free program such as HTTP-Tunnel (http://www.http-tunnel.com) alongside it which will facilitate the connection.

I'm not sure if that website is always online but you can always Google it for alternate download locations.

Let me know if there are any new features you'd like to see in RHS. I've been using it for quite some time now and it's great.
