Good morning,

Thanks a lot for the new release.

I made a fresh installation, because the default installation directory was changed in this release to "%ProgramFiles%\UltraVNC Team\UltraVNC Suite"

Unfortunately this release does not safe the options file correctly.
After the installation two .ini-files exist.
One in installation directory ("%ProgramFiles%\UltraVNC Team\UltraVNC Suite\ultravnc.ini") and another one in "%ProgramData%\UltraVNC\ultravnc.ini"
The .ini file in %ProgramData% is nearly empty and shows a last changed file date 13.09.2012
If you use the uvnc_settings.exe from the installation directory to ajust your settings, the settings are correctly saved to "%ProgramFiles%\UltraVNC Team\UltraVNC Suite\ultravnc.ini"
But if you use settings from the taskbar icon, something weird happens:



The adjusted settings are neither saved to the .ini file in the installation directory nor to the one in ProgramData.

If you restart the UltraVNC service the Settings windows always reappears.

We have been playing to get UltraVNC passes the MS Store certification but folders should have stay the same.
To complex to upgrade.

First, please remove old 1.8.0.0 before installing this one, it installs in "%ProgramFiles%\uvnc bvba\UltraVNC".

@Rudi De Vos: The problem is not the folder "UltraVNC Team" folder but the bad duplicate .ini file.
The good .ini file place is "%ProgramData%\UltraVNC\ultravnc.ini"

@kannweg0815: Please do not use the old uvnc_settings.exe file, it has been added directly in UltraVNC Server.

The problem was that the Unicode implementaion for Chat and FileTransfer also changed some ultravnc.ini code parts.
During testing I didn't see it as I didn't expected that Chat and FileTransfer changes would touch the service.

Thanks the feedback the problem is solved.

And also made a little change, Administrators and Service use the same file in %ProgramData%, that's logical and only when a non-admin user run the Server as Application, he can set a custom .ini file in %AppData%.

Using a different install folder is not for now, this would require a complex installer:
- Service needs to be removed and reinstalled with a different path
- Upgrade overwrites but currently old files stay in the old folder

Currently old folder and file names, new folder and file names will be in V2.

I am working remotely so I am not sure what is happening exactly. I will find out tomorrow when I return to work.
I used my batch file install program I have been using for years to push out the UltraVNC 1800 x64 program. After pushing out the install, it copies our .ini file to the C:\ProgramData\UltraVNC folder.
I pushed out the 1800 (2nd release) to a Windows 11 PC with no issues.
A few days later, I pushed out the 1800 (2nd release) to a Windows 10 PC.
I can't connect to the Windows 10 PC. I keep getting an Authentication Failure message. I un/re-installed the program several times, looking at the UltraVNC program folder and seeing that all the files were removed during the uninstall process. I even installed an older version of UltraVNC. Still I can't connect to the test PC. I keep getting an Authentication Failure message.
I can RDP into the PC without an issue.
I will be at work tomorrow and will try to find out what is happening and will come back to update this post or add another with more information. I just thought I would provide quick feedback of what I ran into.
I did confirm that the correct .ini file has been copied to the C:\Program FIles\UltraVNC folder and to the C:\ProgramData\UltraVNC folder. We stayed with the original C:\Program FIles\UltraVNC folder, in case that makes a difference.

To have a proper functioning, it is better to have ONLY the good .ini file in %ProgramData% (UltraVNC Service).

The duplication is not good...
Important, please do not use "uvnc_settings.exe", it has been integrated directly in UltraVNC Server.

Badly, historically, the ultravnc.ini is not in the good folder...

The Microsoft Windows rules (since several years) specify that no file must be in %ProgramFiles% folder except original installer files (and the uninstaller removes all original files and folder).
A configuration file like ultravnc.ini must be in %AppData% (since Windows 2000 / User specific) or %ProgramData% (since Windows Vista which replaces "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data" / Service specific).

For example, ultravnc.ini in the same folder of UltraVNC Server can be manually selected in command line, it is a "portable" feature.

I uninstalled the old 1.8.0.0 version, deleted all remaining folders, restarted the PC and installed the new 1.8.0.0 version.
The installation directory has changed to "%ProgramFiles%\uvnc bvba\UltraVNC" as stated above.

Unfortuantely there's another error occuring when using vncviewer with encryption plugin enabled:

I found the problem is with the new viewer. It is not accepting the password on the command line.

I use:

It is failing to authenticate on 1.8.0.0 but works correctly on all prior releases.

When I connect using the command line:

I enter the password manually, it connects correctly.

Sorry for the errors, it seems that the unicode conversion of the viewer had some side effect
Viewer is now full unicode, i need to verify if all command lines, special passwords are proper passed.

And plugins also fail to load .... damm

If you find some other let me know, we need to make a security release, else i had more test time.

I installed the latest 1.8.0.1 but I'm sorry to say, that the bug still persists as you can see in the following picture:


This happens when trying to push the "Config encryption plugins" button.

If you close the shown error message and try to connect to a pc afterwards, the following error is shown:


The same error is shown even if you switch off "Use Encryption".

Do you have any idea why this happens?

It works!
Command line passwords are working and connections are fast.
I did a basic test of FileTransfer and it is working.
I have not found any issues in my few hours of testing.

UltraVNC 1.8.0.2

UltraVNC Viewer - Listen Mode: Can not load SecureVNCPlugin.dsm - Window appears: Plugin Activation. The Plugin cannot be loaded. Please check its integrity.

In UltraVNC Server, plugin loads.

I want to test newer version because I'm using 1.6.4.0 UltraVNC Viewer in listen mode and when I connect from two different machines at the same time (two or more active connections at the same time) I have problem with displaying screen properly. Probably the cause is that on first machine I have different screen resolution or scalling (ie. 125%) and when the second connection becomes active and has different resolution or scalling (ie. 100% or 150%) then Ultravnc Viewer does not display properly the first connection. Can you also check if this bug still exists in 1.8.0.2?

I tested the latest 1.8.0.4
All my above reported bugs are solved. Thanks a lot for that.

Meanwhile I found two more bugs.

Steps to simulate:

1. Configure the UltraVNC Server to use RDP mode (Do not login to the Server, stay in the windows logon screen).
2. Open a rdp session from any client.
3. Use another client to connect with UltraVNC Viewer to the Server.

What happens:
Normally UltraVNC Viewer would show a blue screen in which you can choose what RDP session you want to connect to by pressing a, b, c...
But the first try connecting to the Server ends up in showing the windows logon screen without showing the blue screen first.

Close the UltraVNC Viewer window and connect to the Server again.

The second try now shows the blue screen as expected and you can choose to connect to the rdp session opened in 2.

So, could you please make UltraVNC show up the blue screen already on the first connection to the Server?

Follow up...

The second bug is that after you have choosen the rdp session from the blue window, the UltraVNC Viewer window is not automatically resized.
Instead it keeps the size of the blue window and shows a vertical scroll bar only.

And last but not least, after having connected to a rdp session the mouse cursor will be hidden for the person that holds that rdp session when moving the mouse cursor inside the UltraVNC Viewer window.

EDIT: Forget the mouse cursor bug. It was my fault. Everything is working as expected.

I am using the Viewer listening mode, maybe 8-10 PCs connect to it, but 1.8.0.x Viewer closes itself unexpectedly frequently maybe few times in an hour, and it will not happen quite frequent in 1.7.x.x.
Also, I am using autohotkey script to minimize the Viewer window when it popup, and rename the Viewer title, and relaunch the Viewer if it freeze or killed, inside a loop maybe every 20 seconds, will it be the problem?
Where can I check the error log?

RDP: I think it always worked like that. It requires a review but that's not for now. As far is a remember, the Server sometimes need to restart the winvnc in another desktop. To avoid to pass the RDP selection each time some trigger was added, only doesn't work 100%.

Viewer closing. If you can give me some step by step to repeat it, I can see what happen in debug.
It can be the Viewer that disconnect or the Server that disconnect.
Encoder depended, ini files Server/Viewer are also needed (remove password)
