Can't connect when NAT

Post by fredriksk »

Hello. This may very well be the most usefull program on the net... now, if I only could get it to work...

My first step was to create a server for use on my LAN. This worked beautifully.

Second atempt was to create a server for WAN use. This doesn't work no mather what I try.

Here is my net config.
The viewer
=================
IP: 192.168.1.210 windows firewall turned off completly

Behind a Linux server (192.168.1.254) acting like a firewall.
Port 5500 open and forwarded to 192.168.1.210

The Linux server have a dynamic (DHCP) WAN IP.

The Server
============= ===
Behind a HardWare router configured with a dynamic IP on WAN side. Windows Firewall turned of.

Now, I create a new server with the following config:
direct connection
Listenport 5500
auto map = not checked
I use my Linux firewall dynamic WAN IP when asked to give an external ip (I only get som strange characters in this field may be an ISO/UTF problem?).

When I have distributed the PcHelpWare_server.exe file to the computor that should be monitored and try to connect to the viewer computor I get the following error message:
----- 8< ----
Failed to connect
It wasn't posible to make a connection due to that the recieving computor activily ... (<--- free translation from swedish)
Init network failed.
-------------

The swedish end of the sentence can't be read due to the size of the window (Can't copy the text eather).

I have tried to make a server with the dynalias instead (I followed the tutorial that can be found in this forum (one of the sticky threads at the top). and used the uvnc.com as a Host Repeater (I opened the 5912port in my linux firewall according to the tutorial).

I still get the same error message. I have also tried to set upp my own repeater (and opened the ports as described in the tutorial stated above. Still the same result on the server computor.

Any ideas about what I do wrong?

So you can get it working with a LAN but the WAN just doesnt want to cooperate.

The SSL port 443 can not be shared and can only be forwarded and not double natted.

When you get some time PM me and I will try to help you figure it out. You seem to be so close. So it really should not take too long to get you up and running..;)

I am in and out alot of the forum alot. so it may take a few days before we are both on-line at the same time..;)

ok, so last night bevtech helped me get things going. As for now, it seems as if 3G connections from the telephone company 3 (tre) mess things up a bit (don't know why or if it does for shure).

My laptop (the server) could not make a connection to my viewer (ISP: ComHem) but when bevtech tried to connect to my viewer everything worked great!

Thanks to bevtech! I'll buy you a beer when you're in town :wink:

logs would be nice. Both on the server and on the viewer. The server log-window should be resizeable to and a "debug -level" checkbox would be nice. The debug should giva as much info on what went wrong as posible.

Suddenly people can't connect to my viewer again (it worked some days ago). I suspect that my Linux firewall is giving me a hard time but it's hard to tell without logs.

This is a great application. When I get the hang of things my day to day work will get much easier.
