Question about Third-Party products using SC

Let me start out by saying that I really like the SC program and I hope that the development of it does not stop, it is an extremely useful tool.

Next, I have a question. I've noticed in some of the pay-for third party SC packages that they have a timer added to the viewer program. I was wondering how this is achieved. Did they modify the source code or is there an easy way to do this?
