pchelpware viewer on vista laptop with a sprint aircard

Post by cgmsys »

Hello everyone.

I'm a bit stumped. I've been using the pchelware viewer on my desktop for over a year now and it works great. I have a fixed IP and access to my router.

Where I am running into trouble is configuring my laptop so I can use the viewer to provide remote support while on the road. It is running Vista Home Premium, Norton IS 2007 and I connect either with a print aircard or wireless while on the road. (I usually use the aircard)

I did sign up for a free no-ip account.

Most of the documentation seems geared toward having a dynamic IP for your home address where you can acces the router for port forwarding.

My Questions.

1. What do I need software wise. I have the latest release of PCHelpware. I Tried downloading the repeater but I could not seem to get it working right.

2. I tried a variety of configurations on the server. I would think that I would just do a
-connect mynoipname.no-ip.biz:5500. However, since I can't do port forwarding when using my aircard, I know I am missing something here)

Anyway, I'd appreciate any pointers to getting the laptop to work effectively as a viewer.

thanks

I just wanted to let everyone know I got things working.

First of all, I used a direct connection and used the "create Server" option. I was getting a "Forced shutdown" message.

The problem was that I was using the PC that is usually the viewer as the test machine for the server. Since 5500 was port forwarded at the router and I had run the view on that machine earlier, there was a conflict with the ports.

The solution was to go back to the laptop which was running the new PCHelpware viewer and change the Listen Port to 5525 (A port I was not using for anything else on my desktop). I did another "Create Server" and sent the server over to the desktop. Things worked fine at that point.

So, I now have the ability to set up a viewer on my laptop using no-ip.com.

thanks
