SC Win7 Username + Password Prompt

Post by hazel6 »

Hi All,

I've been working with SC for some time now, and all works very nicely even in Win7. The only problem i face is when a Username/Password popup appears on a client PC, I cannot see the pop-up nore can I give any input at that time. When the the clients types in U+P, I can continue working. This is very annoying because the user has to stay at the computer when I am assisting. Anyone any idea??

I think you need to be a little more specific. It sounds as if you are already controlling the machine when this happens.

So... what kind of Username/Password popup are you talking about? A web site login? A "UAC" escalation prompt or admin prompt for a program you/they are running/installing?

I am indeed already controlling the machine. Then when you for instance want to access a network share or if a user with limited user rights wants to install a program, and they receive a popup for U+P, I don't see the pop-up, the client does. The mouse cursor still moves on the remote machine, but I do no longer receive visuals.

Thanks already!

You probably need to deploy the server as a service, using the latest version of winvnc.exe. I'm not sure whether or not the latest SC has the ability. (Yes?)

I do know that both SCPrompt and ChunkVNC (SC derivatives) allow you to install as a service.

if you deploy uvnc as a service, you can then use scprompt to create the reverse connection, and it will use the existing installed service to make the connection, instead of trying to create a new instance of uvnc.

should solve your problems.
