Help! Ultra VNC doesn't work until u logon in Win98

Post by Rodkickboxer »

I have been implementing Ultra VNC in diverses of my customers houses and i have a problem...
As long the most of this machines are Win98 I can't connect to it until the user click OK in logon screen.
The only thing that I understand is the WinVNC.exe is started after the user log on in machine but I'm working in WORKGROUP not domain... and i'm using the default settings of UltraVNC.
I just can't understand this because the others VNC's (tightVNC, RealVNC) I can connect to session before the user log on...
Anyone can help me plizzzzz????
I'm in Panic!!!

dsmplugins use the MS encryption engine....

I guess that win98 just don't have encryption buildin or only can do
64bit...

Possible you need to upgrade the encryption for win98, but this not always evident when the win98 is from a customer.

I was wondering if you guys arent having a bandwith problem as well. I know I have major problems when a client try to connect to me with a windows 98 box. I notice it the most when they are using dailup. :)

I have reproduced the problem. The problem is a security issue. The MSRC4 plugin (the MS Crypto API really) needs to create and use a key-store. When Windows 98 isn't logged-in it can't create the key store. Since it can't create the keystore it can't read the key into memory, and the encryption fails. The only way to recover is to login and then restart the "service".

I really don't remember if this ever worked on 98 or if I somehow broke it. I don't spend much time with 98 these days.

The OpenSSL based plugins don't use the MS Crypto API and they DO work before a user is logged-in.
